The purpose of this unit is to expose students to the proper uses of Word features and how many of the features are used in business.

Content Standards
IBT-1 Demonstrate employability skills required by business and industry.

IBT-2 Apply technology as a tool to increase productivity by creating, editing, and publishing industry-appropriate documents.

IBT-3 Master word processing software to create, edit, and publish professional-appearing business documents.


Assignment 1
  • Take the Pre Test for this section.
  • Watch the video

Pre Test
Word Video

Create a flyer in MS Word using the features we discussed to create a flyer for a North Cobb Valentine's activity [dance, spoken word, play].
Please include:
  • At least 2 different fonts [no more than 3]
  • At least 2 different images [one in which you've removed the background from]
  • A textbox that has a transparent background
  • WordArt
  • Use an image for your background

Include the time, date and place on you flyer. Make sure it is "balanced" and at least the title can be read from 6 to 10 feet away.


Assignment 2
  • Watch video 1 and video 2
  • Take a look at this paper to see a final version of the format.
  • Go to the History Channel's link to Black History Month
  • Review this website to choose a topic, [issue, event, person, etc.] to write on about Black History using the MLA format.
  • 5 paragraphs containing 3 to 5 sentences.
  • MS Word makes writing your paper very easy. If you click on File - New and do a search for MLA [or APA if using the format in another class]; MS Word will give you a MLA Template.



Assignment 3
Assess Yourself - What Are My Career Interests
Access Yourself
- Once you find a job that you like, read all of the information associated with it[e.i. Tasks, Duties, Education, Wages, Outlook, etc.]. If you don't like the options present from the activity, you can do a Search for the job position you want. Use the Search button at the top of the page.
Make a short 7 slide PowerPoint that highlights the aspects of your job. Include these slides:
  • Title Slide - What Are My Career Interest
  • Job Discription/Tasks
  • Education- look up and include Georgia school programs that will prepare you for this position.
  • Experience - how much experience do most job listings require?
  • Salary - Entry and Experienced
  • Job Outlook - hint, if you can find a job listing, there's probably not much demand for your job, you may want to look for something else.
  • Works Cited
Each slide should have a design theme, at least one image and custom animation on every pags slide.



Assignment 4
Resume Writing - What is a Resume and Why Do I Need One?
  • Watch the tutorial "Writing a Resume."
  • Have brief class discussion, review and complete handouts.
  • Construct a resume from information on the handouts.
  • When you open MS Word, click File, New and do a search for resume then choose a template to use for your resume. Use the Sample Student Resume to get ideas for information/categories to use on your resume.
  • Once you're done, save your file in Udrive/Students/Zdavis whichever class period and the folder that says resume. Make sure you save a copy for yourself, in your Hdrive.

Assignment 5
Business Attire - Are you Dressed for Success?
  • Discuss Business Attire and Etiquette from the Dress for Success Handout
  • Go to the Internet and "build" a male and female that are dressed in proper business interview attire. Use images from the internet that demonstrate a male and female who are appropritately dress for an interview, according to the Dress for Success Handout.
  • Then choose 10 questions from the 50 Interview Questions to answer in your own words.
  • Add your interveiw questions to the end of your Dress for Success male and female examples and save them in the resume folder.
